Connecting with Other Tangueros

Building your network of friends and fellow dancers is one of the most rewarding parts of Tanguear. The friendship system is inspired by a beautiful tango tradition: the Mirada and the Cabeceo.

Mirada and Cabeceo: the tango way to connect

In a traditional milonga, a dancer invites another to dance through an exchange of glances — the Mirada (the look) and the Cabeceo (the nod of acceptance). Tanguear brings this elegant ritual into the digital world:

  • Mirada — you send a connection request by tapping the Mirada button on someone's profile. This is your "look across the room"
  • Cabeceo — the other person accepts your request. This is their "nod" back to you

Once the Cabeceo is complete, you are friends. It is a mutual, respectful process — just like on the dance floor.

What happens after you send a Mirada

  • While waiting, the button shows a timer icon with the message "Waiting for Cabeceo"
  • The other person receives a notification and can accept (Cabeceo) or decline
  • Once accepted, you become friends and can see each other's activity
